The business model of a search engine is to show also advertisements based on the search terms and hope the user click's on it. The purpose is to deliver search results. Wouldn't using Ecosia as a regular search engine without committing to clicking the ads defy the purpose of it, as you generate cost to them but they earn no money from you? It is a lot information because Ecosia is a social business that works as transparent as possible.

This is how advertisement in the internet works in general. Is it true Ecosia generates no revenue from regular traffic and displaying ads to you and they only make money when you actually click on the ads?

If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix these problems I wan't to hear em', perhaps the errors are on my side, what do I know? Thanks for reading, as I said I like the idea of Ecosia and I didn't write this post to insult and hate on someone, I'd just like to see Ecosia improve, because I don't want to try to use it, I just want to use it. New tab doesn't have the 'trees planted' counter unlike the (I guess) main page, why not put a teeni-tiny version of the counter somewhere in the corner? I like that there is an addon extension that makes Ecosia dark mode, but I hate the blue coloring, what about making the whole thing customizable or adding some premade schemes? Firstly I need to say: I am very much on board with what Ecosia is trying to do and this post is more of a 'pls fix' rather than trying to hate on someone, I really like the idea of helping the environment by just using the internet but there are a couple of things I just can't get over and are the reason I am not using Ecosia anymore.ġ) Language: 'Search region' and 'Website language' don't seem to work properly, I live in Czechia and I've set them to 'czech', and many times when searching for something I get websites from english speaking countries and even spanish wikipedia articles over the czech ones, which is absolutely ridiculous imoĢ) Lack of "Shop" (might actually be called slightly differently idk) button, a button which Google has and I use quite frequently, Ecosia has option to look on Amazon and other sites, but that is useless when I want to search for a specific item in local eShopsģ) Fricking porn, safe search options 'moderate' and 'strict' seem to do the exact same thing of filtering out some stuff that is not unsafe and the stuff I am looking for, so ok disable safe search, now everytime I search for something most of the results are porn, WTFĤ) Incognito mode, all settings for Ecosia are reset in Incognito mode, Ecosia is a browser extension, so I disable it for Incognito mode in settings, it's still in Incognito mode.īecause of all those reasons I found myself frequently switching to Google inconveniencing myself, so I decided to just always use Google instead, I understand that majority of these reasons may not be Ecosia's fault reather Bing's but I just can't get over it, If you know how to fix any of these please tell me, as I said I am on board with what Ecosia is doing, I just can't use it for these reasonsĪnd now some suggestions (which aren't reasons I don't use Ecosia but I might as well put em' here too):
